CIF Safety Week 2025 – “Back to Basics” Across Our Sites

As part of CIF Safety Week 2025, Bretland Construction Ltd has been proud to support the Construction Industry Federation’s “Back to Basics” campaign, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to promoting safety, health, and wellbeing across all projects.

Throughout the week, our teams have taken time to refocus on the fundamentals, the simple, everyday actions that keep everyone safe on site. Across our sites in Lucan Public Realm, Gallery Quay, Giraffe Lansdowne, and Portlaoise Convent & Parish Lands, we hosted a series of toolbox talks, live demonstrations, and safety briefings, all designed to strengthen our safety-first culture and encourage open conversation among our people.

Lucan Project – Plant and Machinery Safety

Our Lucan project team led a site-wide toolbox talk focusing on plant and machinery safety.
The session highlighted the importance of pre-use inspections, maintaining safe exclusion zones, and ensuring clear communication between operators and ground personnel. The discussion also emphasized the need for strong safety leadership and supervision in all aspects of plant and equipment operations — a true reflection of the Back to Basics message.

Gallery Quay – Working at Heights and SPAs

At our Gallery Quay site, teams participated in toolbox talks on Working at Heights, focusing on fall prevention, harness inspections, edge protection, and ladder safety.
The team also reviewed Safe Plans of Action (SPAs) to reinforce the importance of planning and risk assessment before carrying out any high-risk activities. This proactive approach reflects how safety is everyone’s responsibility, from supervisors to site operatives.

Giraffe Lansdowne – Working at Heights and Access & Egress

At Giraffe Lansdowne, the focus remained on Working at Heights, while also addressing Access & Egress. The team discussed how maintaining clear, unobstructed routes and good housekeeping supports safe movement on site. These sessions reminded everyone that even simple measures, like tidy walkways and properly secured ladders, play a crucial role in building a strong safety culture.

Portlaoise Project – Live Plant, Machinery & Pedestrian Safety Demonstration

In Portlaoise, our site team delivered a live demonstration focusing on plant, machinery, and pedestrian interface safety. The exercise showcased best practices around visibility zones, proximity warning systems, and safe movement around live machinery. It was a valuable reminder that safe work is smart work, and that awareness and communication are key to preventing incidents.

While CIF Safety Week 2025 may have come to a close, our commitment to safety continues year-round. At Bretland Construction, safety isn’t a one-week initiative – it’s part of who we are. By reflecting on our safety practices, sharing lessons learned, and empowering every team member to take ownership of safety, we’re building stronger, safer, and more resilient teams across all our projects.

We are proud to have supported this year’s CIF “Back to Basics” campaign and remain committed to building a safer construction industry for everyone.
