Estimator

Role and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate / lead estimating and tendering function to secure new works and grow the company’s turnover.
  • Issue tender review to board on receipt of new tender.
  • Assign responsibilities in respect of Works proposals, site visit requirements etc
  • Analysing plans, bills of quantities and other tender documentation in order to produce the most competitive possible.
  • Research materials, equipment, and labour costs.
  • Ensure bill is broken into elements and tender enquiries are issued to subcontractors / specialists in a timely fashion.
  • Review risk and opportunities and compile register. (Alternatives / VE options)
  • Ensure that detailed prelims budget is set which aligns with project duration and staffing requirements.
  • Formally review tender with Directors prior to submission.
  • Assessing the financial, technical, and operational risks of the project.
  • Staying aware of the latest construction technologies.
  • Maintain detailed records and write reports.
  • Produce full tender analysis of winning tenders for handover to the project team, with details of all prices obtained and used, etc.
  • Monitoring of construction contracts and ensuring any risks to the company are highlighted at winning tender handover.
  • Identify and promote new business opportunities.
  • Provide advice on alternative methods of construction
  • Ensure tendering of projects is carried out in a systematic manner in line with our ISO accreditation and develop / improve systems as necessary.

 

The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Quantity Surveying degree qualification preferable, and 5-10 years post qualification experience.
  • Ideally will have experience of a range of projects including Residential, Civil, Commercial, Retail, Pharma and Public works.
  • Team management experience and ability to mentor and develop junior staff.
  • Good time management skills and ability to meet agreed deadlines.
  • Must have strong knowledge of building detail and construction technology.
  • Excellent written, oral communication and time management skills
  • Good IT skills with competency in relevant estimating/ surveying/accounting packages.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook.
  • Strong work ethic and desire to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to coordinate a number of varied projects.
  • Preferably based in the north Leinster / Midlands region.
